Vienna in international comparison

GLOBAL.SMART.PREMIUM

In numerous international studies and rankings, Vienna is among the global leaders. For example, in the areas of quality of life, infrastructure, culture, security and innovation. Guests benefit from these advantages just as much as local residents do.

The study by management consultants Mercer on the quality of life in 231 cities ranked Vienna in first place worldwide for the ninth consecutive year (just before the editorial deadline it even won this distinction for 2019 for the tenth time). The Economist Intelligence Unit’s analysis of 140 cities around the world came to the same conclusion and ranked Vienna in first place in 2018 – absolutely the top European metropolis. In the “Smart City Index” of the renowned consulting company Roland Berger, which studied 87 cities, also put Vienna in first place.

According to the latest rankings of ICCA, the International Congress and Convention Association (2nd place behind Paris and ahead of Madrid) and UIA, the Union of International Associations (4th place after Singapore, Brussels and Seoul), Vienna is one of the top convention destinations worldwide.

At the renowned “Australian LGBTI Awards” Vienna asserted itself as the world's best destination in competition with nine other destinations, including New York City, Las Vegas, and Los Angeles. The Spanish newspaper ABC viajar, the British Sunday Telegraph and the French Le Monde all chose Vienna as one of the must-see destinations in 2018. Three hundred thousand readers of the New York travel magazine Condé Nast Traveler voted for Vienna as the best destination in Europe, among other things because of its culture, cuisine, and magnificent architecture, and ranked it fourth internationally.
