Structure & Budget

The Vienna Tourist Board‘s structure and budget are laid down by the Vienna Tourism Promotion Act, which outlines the activities of the board, particularly with respect to representing the interests of Vienna in the field of tourism and destination marketing. It also specifies the local accommodation tax that accrues to the board. The board is managed by a president (nominated by the state government of Vienna) and a director of tourism. The supervisory board (Tourismuskommission) determines the basic guidelines for the board‘s work and its budget, and consists of the president and 17 other members. Fourteen of them are appointed by the government of Vienna, and one each by the Vienna Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Vienna Chamber of Labour, and the Vienna Chamber of Agriculture.

2018 & 2019 BUDGET

A total of € 27.3 million was budgeted for the Vienna Tourist Board in 2018. A budget of € 29.6 million has been established for 2019. 74.42% of this amount comes from a local accommodation tax, while a further 4.23% is contributed by the City of Vienna. This amount is used principally for advertising abroad and for the Vienna Convention Bureau. 1.91% of the 2019 budget is provided by the Vienna Economic Chamber, 6.08% are own revenues and 13.36% changes in reserves. About € 16.2 million was allocated directly to marketing in 2019. The main items were B2C marketing including advertising media production in the amount of around € 7.3 million, B2B marketing including the Vienna Convention Bureau in the amount of € 3.5 million, media management totaling € 2 million and destination management of approximately € 1.5 million.
